  The Advantages of Having Parties

First of all, having parties is good relaxation. After a day of hard work,we look forward to

good relaxation.Having parties can meet our requirements by easing our minds and comforting

英語作文 篇2

Lottery, booming all of a sudden all over the world, attracts all kinds of people. Nearly everybody, old or young, rich or poor, is right now trying his luck in lottery or is thinking of doing so. Despite many disputes that lottery is receiving, I still assume, personally, that lottery does mere good than harm.

The worst effect caused by lottery, as many socialists indicate, is that it produces in people an idea of "gain without pain'.But at the same time, they neglect one point--it is human nature that people all expect to obtain most while offer least. The thought of "gain without pain" is buried in everyone's heart and is not bred by lottery.

Consequently, lottery is innocent in this way. But there still remain a large group of people against lottery, among whom are some lottery addicts. Such people are fond of lottery but unfortunately luck is never fond of them. Finally, they end up in complaining about lottery, declaring the great harm, both psychologically and economically lottery has done to them. In this case, the problem lies in the attitude of people, not lottery.

Since the major two sorts of harm are not lottery's fault, let's have an objective look on lottery. For the society, lottery is the most practical way to accumulate funds. For those who happen to win a large fortune, I think they can't kiss their lottery enough. Also for those who have not a single chance to be lucky dogs, lottery can mutely tell them the truth of "no pains, no gains."

Spare the lottery! It, in itself can do more good than harm.

英語作文 篇3

almost everyday we may see something in the newspaper or on tv about the latest exciting developments in space exploration. there is an immense pride in our science and technology and a sense of its importance for the welfare of mankind.

not everyone , however, shares this feeling. ever since space research began, it has been criticized as a huge waste of money and other resources, which might be used to help to relieve the suffering of the earth’s starving millions. it has also been felt that the space program might lead to the total destruction of the earth. despite these disadvantages and potential dangers, the advantages are far greater. we have already succeeded in using satellites for communications, weather forecast and oil exploration and with further space research, more problems we are having now can be solved. for instance, with the success of space shuttles and the feasibility of living in other planets, we may solve the population problem on the earth. space projects will also enable us to find a few chemical elements to cure presently incurable diseases.

space exploration contributes not only to the improvement of the quality of human life, but also to our understanding of the interdependence of all beings; and therefore, of the need to take better care of each other.

英語作文 篇4

Aug & Sept daily 9.30am–4.15pm; £9.50; advance booking on tel 0171/930 4832. Victoria tube.

The graceless colossus of Buckingham Palace, popularly known as "Buck House", has served as the monarch''s permanent London residence only since the accession of Victoria. Bought by George III in 1762, the building was overhauled by Nash in the late 1820s, and again by Aston Webb in time for George V''s coronation in 1913, producing a palace that''s about as bland as it''s possible to be.

For two months of the year, the hallowed portals are grudgingly nudged open; timed tickets are sold from the tent-like box office in Green Park at the western end of The Mall. The interior, however, is a bit of an anticlimax: of the palace''s 660 rooms you''re permitted to see just 18, and there''s little sign of life, as the Queen decamps to Scotland every summer. For the other ten months of the year there''s little to do here, since the palace is closed to visitors – not that this deters the crowds who mill around the railings, and gather in some force to watch the Changing of the Guard, in which a detachment of the Queen''s Foot Guards marches to appropriate martial music from St James''s Palace (unless it rains, that is).

You can view a small selection of the Royal Collection – which is more than three times larger than the National Gallery''s – at the Queen''s Picture Gallery (daily 9.30am–4.30pm; £4), round the south side of the palace on Buckingham Palace Road. The exhibitions usually include some works by Reynolds, Gainsborough, Vermeer, Rubens, Rembrandt and Canaletto, which make up the bulk of the collection.

There''s more pageantry on show at the Nash-built Royal Mews (April–Sept Tues–Thurs noon–4pm; Oct–Dec Wed only; £3.50), further along Buckingham Palace Road. The royal carriages, lined up under a glass canopy in the courtyard, are the main attraction, in particular the Gold Carriage, made for George III in 1762, smothered in 22-carat gilding and weighing four tons, its axles supporting four life-size figures.
